Hoo boy -- I was wondering what people who were there thought of Joan! To have lyrics like Children of the 80s thrown at you ...

>We like the music of the 60's
We think that era must have been nifty …
Take uppers, downers, blues and reds and yellows
Our brains are turning to Jello …

And so on. Then she reappears for the world's most surreal Baby Blue ...

Btw there's a lot of competition for astoundingly dreadful lyrics from that apparent album-in-process. Like this song, Warriors of the Sun (performed on 12/12/81):

Everybody knows that the whale is smarter than we
That's why they're trying to kill off the king of the sea
They were here before us, why don't we just let the fishes be

Btw, the songs on 12/12/81 seem to be a selection of what would have been on that album. It seems to have been heavy on a wistful nostalgic look at the 60s and its legacy (with "the children of the 80s" somehow carrying that on because, uh, they think the music was nifty.) There's one about John Lennon's death, too. All pretty poorly conceived and thin.

Go listen to the last minute of Must Have Been the Roses, she came out and "Sang" over Garcia's last solo, and then on the chorus. Oh she made me nervous the rest of the night, that she might walk out at any time and sing.
Little did I know she had a KAZOO with her.

Didn't Mickey know you don't let your girl friend sing with your band!

So bad it's funny. Bobby is too nice to have the next song be commentary...

The band made funny faces behind Joan's back as she delivered the minds turn to jello line. It was quite comic really.

Jerry got married that night, so he was in a "mood". We were pressed up against the rail the whole night, it was a fun show to watch from up close. Joan was in way over her head. I wonder if someone dosed her.

I have never seen pictures from that night. There was one with Jerry holding one of his daughters backstage, they posted on the Jerry page. I would love to see some shots from that show, maybe some video like the year before.
